Background

Viewing drawings without an AutoCAD licence

On every site, in every work preparation office and at every estimating desk the same question comes up: which drawing is the latest version, and where is it? Sheet Set Viewer answers that by opening the sheet set (.dst) the drafter already set up — subsets, sheet numbers and order included — and opening the matching PDF straight from there.

The sheet set as the leading structure

In many firms the folder structure on the server grew historically and cannot be understood without a colleague explaining it. The sheet set can: it holds the official order of drawings, the subsets per discipline or building section and the sheet numbers exactly as they appear on paper. The Viewer uses that structure as navigation, so everyone — drafter or not — sees the same overview.

From sheet to PDF in one click

Every sheet in the tree points at the drawing it belongs to. If the plotted PDF sits in the expected location, the Viewer opens it in your default PDF reader. You never need to know what the plot folder is called or which naming scheme a colleague invented three years ago: you click the sheet number you see in the specification or the email.

Read-only, and therefore safe to hand out

The Viewer never writes to the .dst file or to your drawings. That makes it suitable for colleagues who must be able to see drawings but should not change them: installers, site supervisors, estimators, project leads and clients. No AutoCAD licence is required and no file is sent to a cloud service — everything stays on your workstation and network share.

Where the Viewer stops and the Editor starts

Sheet Set Viewer shows and opens; it edits nothing. When sheet numbers, titles or revisions need changing, that is work for Sheet Set Editor or for Sheet Set Manager inside AutoCAD. In practice firms use both: the drawing office maintains the set, the rest of the company reads it with the Viewer.

Installation and administration

The Viewer is a standalone Windows application with no server component. Put it on the workstation, point it at a .dst file and you are done. For companies on a shared project drive that means no extra infrastructure, no accounts and no administrative load on the IT department.

FAQ

Questions about Sheet Set Viewer

Do I need AutoCAD to use the Viewer?

No. Sheet Set Viewer is a standalone Windows application that reads the .dst file itself. No AutoCAD installation or licence is required.

Can the Viewer display DWG drawings?

The Viewer shows the sheet set structure and opens the matching PDFs. To open the DWG itself you use AutoCAD or a DWG viewer.

What happens if the PDF has not been plotted yet?

The Viewer reports that the file is missing at the expected location. The sheet stays visible in the tree, so you know the drawing exists but has not been issued yet.

Does the Viewer change anything in our sheet set?

No. It is strictly read-only and never writes to the .dst file or to the drawings.

Does it work with sheet sets on a network drive?

Yes. Open a .dst file from a local disk or a UNC network path; references to the PDFs are resolved relative to it.

When can I buy the Viewer?

The application is finished and tested. Sales start once the payment environment leaves the sandbox and the business registration is complete — leave your details to be notified.
