  • Locaties: profielnaam, bron, back-up, bewaartermijn en optionele staging.

  2. Kies de Bronmap: de leidende bibliotheek.
  3. Kies een afzonderlijke Back-upmap met voldoende ruimte.
  8. Klik op Opslaan (Ctrl + S).
Voorbeeld met proefbestanden

Bron: C:\LibSyncDemo\Source
Doel: C:\LibSyncDemo\Target
Back-up: C:\LibSyncDemo\Backups

Maak hierin uitsluitend testbestanden.

  2. Kies Valideren en daarna Preview.
  3. Lees ook waarschuwingen over overgeslagen koppelingen of onbereikbare locaties.
  4. Vergelijk de verwachte wijzigingen met je bedoeling.
Onverwachte verwijderingen?

06 / STAGINGLaat nieuwe inhoud eerst landen

Enter bevestigt standaard Overslaan.

OLD bevat eerdere versies van overschreven bestanden; DEL bevat verwijderde bestanden.

  3. Selecteer eerdere versies, verwijderde bestanden of beide.

Valideren meldt overlappende mappen.

Preview toont onverwachte verwijderingen.

Lees waarschuwingen over overgeslagen koppelingen.

User guide · Windows 10 / 11 · LibSync

Your library, synchronized with care.

From your first profile to a safe restore: review changes in advance and stay in control of your files.

01 / GETTING STARTEDBegin with a small trial run

LibSync synchronizes one source folder to one or more target folders. The source defines the desired contents; this is not automatic two-way synchronization. You start each run yourself.

  1. Open LibSync from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Click New and create a profile for a few disposable files.
  3. Choose separate source, target and backup folders. Complete the profile settings.
  4. Click Validate, then Save and Preview.
  5. Review the activity list before selecting Run Sync and reading the confirmations.
Start safely. Keep source, targets, staging and backup separate. These folders must not be the same or contain one another. Only the staging mount location belongs inside the source. An unreachable network source is not an empty source.

Installation and removal apply to all Windows users and require administrator approval. Run the app normally without administrator rights. Follow the installer message if an older per-user installation is detected.

02 / THE INTERFACEEverything for your daily run

Your profiles appear on the left. Configure the selected profile and review activity on the right.

  • Locations: profile name, source, backup, retention and optional staging.
  • Target folders: one or more destinations that follow the source.
  • Sync behavior: exclusions, deletions, staging promotion and read-only marking.
  • Action bar: Validate, Save, Preview and Run Sync.
  • Activity: expected changes, warnings, progress and final results.

Drag the dividers to resize the profile and activity panes. Clear log clears the visible session list; it does not delete files or backups.

03 / PROFILESSet up your locations once

  1. Choose New (Ctrl + N) and give the profile a recognizable name.
  2. Choose the Source folder: the authoritative library.
  3. Choose a separate Backup folder with enough free space.
  4. Set retention. The default is 30 days; 0 or a negative number disables automatic pruning.
  5. Add at least one Target folder.
  6. Enter excluded extensions if needed, for example .tmp, .bak.
  7. Review behavior settings, click Validate and resolve every error.
  8. Click Save (Ctrl + S).
Disposable example

Source: C:\LibSyncDemo\Source
Target: C:\LibSyncDemo\Target
Backup: C:\LibSyncDemo\Backups

Use test files only. Keep your real library out of your first trial run.

Delete removes the selected profile after confirmation. Recheck locations before each run; saving a profile does not guarantee that a network share is currently reachable.

04 / PREVIEWReview the impact before writing

Preview reads the folders and lists new, changed and deleted files, orphans and any staging changes. Preview does not write synchronized files or promote staging.

  1. Select the profile and check access to every location.
  2. Choose Validate, then Preview.
  3. Read warnings about skipped links or unavailable locations.
  4. Compare the expected changes with your intended result.
Unexpected deletions? Stop and check the source, profile and network connection first. Run a fresh preview after changing settings or restoring connectivity.

Symbolic links and junctions are skipped. Review the warning: files behind a link do not count as ordinary source contents.

05 / SYNCHRONIZATIONRun a controlled synchronization

  1. After reviewing the preview, choose Run Sync.
  2. Review any separate staging confirmation; promotion can already change the source before the later synchronization confirmation.
  3. If automatic deletion is off, choose an orphan action.
  4. Read the synchronization confirmation, including counts and deletions.
  5. Confirm and wait for the final summary.
  6. Review activity and spot-check the target files.

New and changed source files are copied to the targets. When Delete files not present in source is enabled, target-only files are deleted after confirmation and backup.

LibSync backs up an existing file before overwriting or deleting it. If that backup fails, the corresponding file action does not proceed. A run can succeed only partly: review every reported failure before trying again.

Avoid editing the library from another program during a run. If a connection fails, check connectivity, free space, permissions and file locks. Start again with Validate and Preview.

06 / STAGINGReview incoming library content

A staging folder collects new or changed files before they enter the source. Configure both the separate Staging folder and its mount location inside the source, and enable Promote staging when using this workflow.

Example

With mount location Source\Approved, the staged file Incoming\Symbols\Valve.dwg becomes Source\Approved\Symbols\Valve.dwg. The updated source is then synchronized to the targets.

Preview calculates the result as if promotion had happened. Running sync asks for separate approval to promote staging. Existing source files are backed up first; successfully promoted staging files are removed from staging after verification. Identical files can be skipped.

Promotion makes real changes. The source may already be updated if you cancel the later target synchronization. Check the staging preview and mount location before approving promotion.

Mark source read-only applies read-only marking to the source files processed for that purpose. This does not replace Windows access permissions.

07 / ORPHAN FILESReview files found only on a target

With automatic deletion disabled, LibSync shows target-only files in a separate dialog. You choose one action for the displayed orphan files in that run.

  • Skip: keep the files as they are. This is the safe default when unsure.
  • Delete: back them up first, then remove them from the target.
  • Copy to source: bring target files back into the source. Review the source afterwards and preview again for all targets.
  • Rename: keep the target file with a .bak suffix. Check the result before further cleanup.

Enter confirms Skip by default. Destructive choices require an explicit click on Continue. The synchronization confirmation also names the selected action.

Choose Skip if you are unsure where a file came from. An orphan file is not necessarily disposable.

08 / BACKUP AND RESTORECheck a restore before applying it

Backups are grouped into runs. OLD contains previous versions of overwritten files; DEL contains deleted files. Retention can automatically remove older runs: monitor free space and the recovery period you need.

  1. Select the correct profile and open File → Restore.
  2. Select the desired backup run and verify its origin.
  3. Select previous versions, deleted files or both.
  4. Restore to original locations only when those locations are correct. Otherwise choose a separate temporary destination outside the backup tree.
  5. Run the restore preview first.
  6. Start restoring and confirm the warning.
  7. Check the restored files.

Before overwriting an existing file, restore creates a new rollback backup. If that fails, that file stays unchanged. A restore destination must not be inside or above the backup folder.

Restore does not start another synchronization. After restoring into the source, run Validate and Preview yourself. Restores can succeed only partly; check all messages.

09 / SETTINGS AND LICENSEUse your preferred language and theme

Open File → Options to select one of eight app languages and the Light, Dark or Book theme. You can also check the version and request an update check. Preferences are saved between sessions.

Open File → License to review license or trial status and activate a license. Do not send license keys to support; describe the message and app version instead.

This guide is available in Dutch and English. A Dutch app opens the Dutch guide; other app languages open English. Switch languages at the top of the page. The installed guide works offline; product, support and policy links require internet access.

  • F1 — open this guide, including from dialogs
  • Ctrl + N — new profile
  • Ctrl + S — save profile
  • Tab / Shift + Tab — navigate controls
  • In this page: Ctrl + F to find, Ctrl + P to print

10 / QUESTIONS AND SUPPORTResolve common problems

Validation reports overlapping folders.

Use separate source, target, staging and backup locations. Only the staging mount belongs inside the source. Never use the backup folder as content to synchronize.

A network folder is unreachable.

Restore the connection and check access with your regular Windows account. Run Validate and Preview again. Do not rely on an old preview as proof of current availability.

Preview shows unexpected deletions.

Stop and check the source and selected profile. Read warnings about skipped links. Do not approve a run until you understand why the files are missing.

A run reports errors or succeeds only partly.

Read the summary and activity. Check free space, permissions and file locks at the affected locations. Close other programs editing the files and run a new preview before retrying.

The backup folder keeps growing.

Check retention: 0 or a negative value keeps all runs. Decide which recovery points you need before adjusting it.

A backup run seems to belong to another profile.

Stop and check the profile’s backup folder and the original locations. Do not select a run by its date or time alone.

When contacting support, include your LibSync version, Windows version, steps and displayed message. Do not share license keys, personal paths or confidential library files.
